Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai is organizing the Inter School Contest (Inter School Aviation Quiz, Aviation Essay Contest, and Aviation Elocution Contest) in offline mode on December 9, 2023.

About the Organiser

Nehru Science Centre is the largest interactive science centre in India. It is located in Worli, Mumbai. The centre is named after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), the parent body of Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai, is an autonomous society under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India with 25 Science Centres / Museums all over the country.

About the Inter-School Aviation Quiz

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students of VIII-X.
  • Each school can nominate two teams only.
  • A team consists of two students. It is a team event having a written preliminary round consisting of multiple-choice questions related to Aviation/Aerospace, current issues, personalities in National and International aviation, etc.
  • The top 5 teams of the preliminary round will be short-listed for the final round, which will consist of oral/rapid-fire questions on the above subjects.

Prizes

  • The best team consisting of two girl students will receive the Indian Women’s Pilot Association (IWPA) trophy. The institute of the winner of the Aviation Quiz will receive a Boeing Rotating Shield.
  • Winners/Runners will be awarded prizes.

About the Essay Contest

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students of XI & XII/Junior Colleges/DGCA-approved AME Institutes.
  • Only one nomination per institution.

Topic

  • How Data Science is used in Aviation? 
  • Glory of India’s Space program. 
  • Remote-controlled passenger flight-Myth or Reality.
  • One topic from the above 3 will be given for the competition on the event day.

Duration

  • 45 minutes.

Language

  • English.

Prizes

  • The institute of the winner will receive the JRD TATA Memorial Trust Rotating Shield.
  • Three (I, II, and III) prizes will be awarded for this contest.

How to Submit?

  • Interested students can submit their essay via this link.
  • Submission Guidelines: Candidates should write on the given topic during the allotted time with a minimum of 3 one-sided A4 size pages but not exceeding 4 pages.

About the Elocution Contest

Eligibility

  • Students of IX-XII.
  • One nomination per institution.
  • The top 5 speakers of the preliminary round will be short-listed for the final round.

Topic

  • How will technology affect aviation in the future – possibilities and concerns?
  • What are Greenfield airports? How do they protect the environment?
  • Can Indian Civil Aviation navigate the challenges of Aviation growth?

Language

  • Hindi/Marathi/English.

Duration

  • 3 minutes.

Prizes

  • The Institute of the winner of the final will receive the Airbus Rotating Shield.
  • The best girl participant will receive the Indian Women’s Pilot Association (IWPA) trophy.
  • Three (I, II, and III) prizes will be awarded.

  • Each institute may also nominate one Teacher or Parent as an escort with the participants.
  • Participation certificates will be awarded to all students.
  • There will also be ample opportunity for the participants & escorts to interact with aviation professionals.
  • There will be special prizes for escort teachers/parents for participating in the written Aviation Quiz.
