About the Research Assistantship

The Professorship for Global Health (Prof. Janina Steinet) invites application for a 12-month research assistant/pre-doc position at the TUM School of Governance as part of a DFG-funded research project on the “ Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on child Marriage, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Domestic Violence in India and Zambla (COV-CSRD) ”.

The project aims at assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender inequality in the Global South by putting specific focus on three central indicators of gender inequality, namely (1) domestic violence (SDG target 5.2), (2) child and forced marriage (SDG target 5.3), and (3) sexual and reproductive health (SDG target 5.6) The project will involve quantitative primary data collection in India and Zambia to examine how the pandemic affects child marriage , sexual and reproductive health , and domestic violence in both countries and to understand how cultural and contextual differences shape these impacts.

Your Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the day-to-day management of the above research project
  • Communicating with research partners in India and Zambia
  • Supporting the design and programming of questionnaires
  • Supporting the training of enumerators in India and Zambia
  • Managing the primary data collection remotely and in field
  • Cleaning and merging quantitative data
  • Assisting preliminary analyses of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Contributing to the write-up of empirical papers
  • Developing policy recommendation bassed on research findings.

Your Qualification :

  • University degree in global/public health development studies, economics, political science, psychology or a related field (M.A. or M.Sc. )
  • Substantive interest in research and plans to pursue a PhD
  • Previous experience with primary data collection , survey design, and project management is desirable.
  • Strong quantitative methods and statistics skills and proficiency with State or R V
  • Very good spoken and English skills.
  • Enthusiasm for research and working in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams.
  • Residence in Munich desirable but remote work also possible.
  • Citizens from any nation are Eligible.

Duration

  • The position will begin at the earliest possible date and is limited to 12 months. The employment is subject to appropriate remuneration in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service of the Lander (TV-L) at the E13 level.
  • Both, HfP and TUM aim to increase the proportion of the women. Quanlified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Severely handicapped persons are given preferential employment if their aptitude and qualifications are essentially the same.
