Submissions are invited for Uttar Pradesh a Global Religious Tourism Hub National Design Competition 2022 by Department of Tourism, Uttar Pradesh. The last date of submission is 25 April.

About the Competition

Department of Tourism, Uttar Pradesh is hosting a “National Design Competition” from 11th April to 25th April. The competition calls for submissions in 3 categories – logo design, city gate design and city signages design – for each of the 4 proposed religious development councils – namely Chitrakoot Teerth Vikas Parishad, Namisharanya Teerth Vikas Parishad, Shukra Teerth Vikas Parishad and Vidhyavasini Teerth Vikas Parishad and 6 Buddhist sites under the Buddhist Circuit – namely Kapilvastu, Koshambi, Sravasti, Sarnath, Sankasya and Kushinagar.

Level

As an initial step, the DoT is launching International Level Competitions for designing

  • City Logo – As a mark of brand and identity
  • City Welcome Gates – As city entry points from multiple directions based on Nav Dwara Concept.
  • Signage for the city – For better public movement, legibility and highlighting its culture, ethos and plurality.

Competitions & Awards

1. City Logo Design Competition: 

The city logo should depict the culture, ethos, and identity of the location. The design of the logo should evoke sense of spirituality and symbolize architecture, natural features, climate, topography, lifestyle, plurality, the great past and future ambitions of the location, stories / lessons / era of mythology brand / identity of that specific location with innovative use of design, colours, shapes etc.

Submission requirements

  • Logo should be submitted in PDF format only with maximum size of 5 MB, created on a digital platform without any imprints, watermarks.
  • Logo should be designed in colour with a maximum size of 30 cm x 30 cm. File should be high resolution – at least 300 pixels per inch at 100% size without any pixelation.
  • A single document with design sheet combined with a brief write-up in Hindi / English and in native language in 300 words about how the design encapsulates the essence of the location to be uploaded on the portal

2.City Welcome Gates: 

The Welcome Gates based on the Nav Dwara Concept would become integral part depicting the culture, ethos, and identity of the location. The design of the Welcome Gates should portray harmony between the great past and future ambitions of the location with stories / lessons / era, brand / identity of that location with innovative use of design, material selection, textures, colours etc. The design should follow Nagara Shaili (northern style temple architecture) and may be combined with modern / innovative styles of architecture.

  • A3 size (29.7 Cm x 42.0 Cm) format up to a maximum of 2 sheets in PDF Format with maximum size of 5 MB.
  • Sheet 1: Concept with relevance to location
  • Sheet 2: Detailed designs – plan, section, elevation, sketches, 3D illustrations

For City Welcome gates design competition, DoT mandates architectural / design / civil engineering firms to participate. DoT may award the work of final detailed design, working drawings, DPR preparation, bid process management etc. to the award-winning firm on consultancy fee basis on mutually agreed terms.

3. Family of signages for the city: 

The unified family of public signages will enhance the experience of the tourists by the depiction of Culture, Harmony and Architecture of the location through its innovative design. They should reflect the notion of the place where they have been placed. They should respond to the religious and spiritual character of the place, the prevailing land use i.e., Public, Institutional, Recreational etc. The signage should be adaptable, intuitive and maintenance / vandalism free. The DoT calls for a family of 3 signages which is envisaged to be multilingual and should bring in architectural homogeneity.

  • Signages to be placed at the main entrance of the city depicting the general directional information and wayfinding
  • Signages to be placed within the city depicting general directional information about the Temple Area Precinct, Historical Buildings and Historical Information Signs
  • Signages to be placed at the major landmarks

  • A3 size (29.7 Cm x 42.0 Cm) format up to a maximum of 2 sheets in PDF Format with maximum size of 10 MB.
  • Sheet 1: Concept with relevance to location
  • Sheet 2: Detailed designs – plan, section, elevation, sketches, 3D illustrations, Material, Color scheme, size, height, width etc.
