The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional, and bilateral interests.

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Position: Transport Officer
  • Salary: INR 50,395 per month
  • Location: New Delhi, India

This position supervises the Australian High Commission’s transport section and assists in the delivery of protocol services.

  • Supervise and lead the transportation team including rostering, overtime arrangements, establish work priorities, monitor performance and provide regular feedback. 
  • Manage transport booking requests and undertake scheduling 
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs, including both reactive and preventative works 
  • Maintain vehicle records and assist with the purchase and registration of new vehicles
  • Maintain fuel and expense logs, accounts and invoices 
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of transport plans for official visits 
  • Establish, develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders including local authorities. 
  • Liaise with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and other Indian Government authorities on protocol and customs matters relating to accreditations, importations, visas and diplomatic mail. 
  • Assist with airport protocol and related arrangements for official travel and visits
  • Assist with customs clearances for incoming goods and liaise with other diplomatic missions to obtain visas for staff travel
  • Prepare correspondence and liaise with the MEA, government agencies and embassies on sensitive matters. 
  • Assist with registration and sale of official and A- Based private vehicles. 
  • Perform other duties and back up as required

Education Qualification/Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing a team
  • Sound English and Hindi language skills
  • Valid Indian driving licence
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, organise, plan and deliver services
  • Ability to build and maintain contacts wit Desirable 
  • Knowledge of MEA guidelines and processes (or ability to acquire knowledge) to achieve work area objectives, and an ability to apply relevant legislation, policy and guidelinesh Indian Government authorities
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs
