Jan Sahas, established in the year 2000, is a not for profit grassroots organization committed to promote the development and protect the rights of socially excluded communities with special focus on girls and women through the eradication of all forms of bondage including manual scavenging and caste-based prostitution; empowerment of adolescent girls and women to end violence and gender justice, skill development for dignified livelihoods and social entrepreneurship; legal aid for access to justice and reform in the criminal justice system; support in education; food and nutrition security; land and agriculture development; develop barefoot lawyers to build victim or survivors as leader and empowerment of communities through capacity and organization building. 

About the Migrants Resilience Collaborative (MRC): 

MRC is a grassroots-led multi-stakeholder collaborative of nonprofit, philanthropic, and private sector actors focused on ensuring dignity, safety, security, and mobility for vulnerable migrant families across India. The Collaborative will be India’s largest grassroots-led collaborative, and largest non-governmental initiative dedicated to the migrant workers and their families. We will support 10 million workers and their families in 100 districts and cities (across source and destination) over the next 5 years with the following outcomes: 

  • Delivering social security entitlements 
  • Providing access to responsible and ethical recruitment 
  • Strengthening tracking, worker protections, welfare, and redressal

 About the Position and Team:

The Manager, Strategy will be a member of the internal strategy team comprising the Director, Strategy (Jan Sahas) and strategy managers from Global Development Incubator. The team’s mandate is to help the MRC achieve its goals faster, better, and cheaper. It does so by executing discrete ‘cases’ (akin to a consulting firm) focused on a) government technical assistance, and b) pilots to radically improve social protection delivery. It works closely with the programs and partnerships teams to understand the specific needs of communities and help design and implement solutions. In addition, the strategy team also supports fundraising and key partnerships development aligned with the strategy. 

The Manager will help develop high-impact strategies and implementation plans, develop independent work plans, perform data-driven analysis, take ownership for significant portions of work, including external engagement. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Strategy development for the Migrants Resilience Collaborative, including but not limited to:
    • National helpline and worker protection 
    • Social security for key states 
    • Responsible recruitment and industry engagement strategy 
  • Facilitate joint problem-solving with managers, Directors, and strategic partners 
  • Work closely with respective teams to design/test innovative pilots and to execute strategy/analysis 
  • Work with program and operations teams to improve programs; and with the government team to execute on MRCs systems change goals 
  • Contribute to organizational development 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Demonstrated passion and commitment to working in the social sector 
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience; will consider candidates with two years of experience in a strategy consulting firm 
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, creativity in problem solving 
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, working in teams, and facilitating joint problem solving 
  • Highly self-motivated and willing to proactively take on leadership roles 
  • Experience working on the issues of social security and labour, with the construction industry, and/or with government departments is a plus .

Other Details

  • Compensation: Competitive compensation offered depending upon the experience and profile of the candidate 
  • Expected commitment: 2 years 
  • Base Location: No stipulation. Significant travel to Mumbai, Delhi, other locations as work requires (estimated 7-10 days a month).
