About the Organisation

Ayang Trust is a social purpose organization working towards building the ecosystem for sustainable self empowered communities in Northeast India through interventions in quality education and women’s entrepreneurship.

At the heart of the organization is The Hummingbird School started in January 2017 to provide a contextual and holistic education to the children of Majuli, set up completely in partnership with the local community. The formal establishment of Ayang thus was preceded by The Hummingbird School. Ayang grew out of the various and urgent needs of the people of Majuli and was registered under the Indian Trust Act of 1882 in November 2017.

About the opportunity

Ayang’s Education team has been working towards facilitating quality education through initiatives in school and community libraries, rural youth educator fellowship, as well as improving teaching and learning practices in public schools. 

We are seeking passionate and ethically driven educators who are high on integrity to drive one/more of Ayang’s educational initiatives along with the Program Lead. They will be contributing to the success of the initiatives through able program design and delivery, evaluation and course correction, coordination with stakeholders and government, as well as effective team management. The role would involve a fair amount of travel, frequent interaction with critical stakeholders like teachers, parents, DEEOs, etc., and would require an ability to learn and adapt on the go.

Key areas of work:

  • End to end program designing – from problem mapping to defining activities aligned to outcomes
  • Research – from reviewing contemporary literature and studying existing interventions across the globe to consulting with other organizations to deepen understanding of existing best practices as well as identify areas that can be contextualized 
  • Content Architecture – creating learning modules, and training materials
  • Training and Coaching youth volunteers, fellows, teachers and other stakeholders in education practices and methods
  • Conduct school and community visits to see programs in action and identify factors that might influence program outcomes, and account for in curriculum and content designing process 
  • Documentation and Reporting – from creating handbooks and program documents of Ayang’s Education Programs to developing project concept notes and proposals to submit to potential supporters.

  • think no work is beneath you and go beyond the call of duty, be it cleaning toilets or hosting a guest of the organization
  • have the communication skills and acumen to work in a multicultural environment

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in education space, teaching experience would be an added advantage
  • A degree in education or related fields
  • Fluent spoken, written, and reading abilities in English are required, professional proficiency in Assamese would be a critical advantage
  • Proven experience in preparing reports and communication materials desired
  • Ability to ride a 2 Wheeler is critical in this role
  • Finds great joy and pleasure in the world of books

Compensation:

  • The monetary remuneration would be commensurate with experience and qualifications,  just and on par with nonprofit salaries in Northeast India. The decision range shall be CTC between 3.36L to 4.20L per annum.
