Sense International India is looking for a Pyschologist and Counsellor position for effective and efficient implementation of its project ‘Mental Health Awareness and Support to Children and Young Adults with Deafblindness and their Families’ for the period April 2021 – March 2023.

Sense International India (also known as Sense India) is the only national-level organisation supporting needs-based services which enables children and adults with deafblindness to overcome the challenges caused due to deafblindness.Sense India’s key objective is to provide information, guidance, support and training needed along with being committed to supporting persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities and their families by raising awareness and campaigning for their rights, opportunities and services throughout the nation.
Sense India’s core team has required expertise in the domains of deafblind communication, mobility, accessible information, assistive devices and rehabilitation. With its unique technical know-how & experience since 1997 in the field of deafblindness and multiple disabilities, Sense India uses a multi-pronged approach which, includes technical/ financial assistance to its partner NGOs and direct capacity building of their staff to work with children and adults with deafblindness and multiple disabilities.
Job Description
- Reports to: Director – Programme
- Location: Ahmedabad, although the job will involve travel to project sites of Sense International India.
- Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be at par with similar organisations in the sector. Other benefits will be applicable as per existing policies of the Organisation.
- Nature: This post is contractual in nature, i.e. a fixed contract of 2 years; upto March 2023 (inclusive of 6 months probationary period).
- Hours: 40 hours per week (Including Lunch Break)

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assess, identify and document the mental health issues of persons with deafblindness and multiple disabilities (Target Population) using appropriate tools.
- Develop curriculum for training on Mental Health issues for persons with deafblindness/ multiple disabilities, their families and special educators.
- Implement the training programme for professionals and families on Mental Health issues
- Support partner organisations of Sense India to organise mental health camps
- Screening and identification of mental and neurological disorders in target population.
- Provide counselling to persons with deafblindness and their families to overcome from mental health issues.
- Keep a track of clients being provided with mental health treatment and their success through pre and post assessment.
- Quarterly monitoring of the progress made by persons with deafblindness based on intervention provided.
Eligibility
- Post Graduation/M.Phil in Psychology or in relevant subjects.
- Should have proven experience in the areas of mental health issues.
- The person be well versed with various mental health and well-being tools and adapting them as per the needs of persons with deaf blindness
- Aware of WHO-5 well-being index
- Willing to travel to project locations
- Relate and interact successfully with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
- Operate a computer and MS Office programs
- Takes initiative and offers new ideas
- The successful candidate must meet Sense International India’s mandatory background checks to comply with the organisational Safeguarding System
