The Queer Muslim Project is South Asia’s largest virtual network of Queer, Muslim and allied individuals, with a growing global community of over 32K people. We use art, culture, media, and storytelling to challenge harmful stereotypes and norms, build power and visibility of underserved LGBTQIA+ communities, and enable them to shape their own narratives. Our key focus areas include digital advocacy, creative training programs, online safety and well-being, and feminist and Queer-affirming approaches to faith.

Manager, Communications and Social Media

You will develop, execute and manage the communication strategy and content for The Queer Muslim Project (TQMP) in line with its vision and goals, to amplify issues connected with its work and build knowledge resources, ensuring key messages are effectively shared with appropriate external and internal audiences. This includes developing our social media strategy and implementation,managing digital media and content creation initiatives, and spearheading digital campaigns,community outreach and partnerships.

Role Description

  • Develop and improvise on the overall social media and communications strategy for the organisation, as a living document with an implementation time frame and calendar.
  • Plan and develop regular content in various formats (video, audio, text, photos, memes, etc.) and maintain a high standard for writing, quality of information, and strategic participation in issues.
  • Track media visibility, grow TQMP’s social media presence across platforms, and position us in the media vis-à-vis others in the same sector
  • Develop benchmark metrics to measure the results of social media programs and campaigns, i.e. increase follower base in various social media channels.
  • Design and manage digital campaigns keeping with the latest social media trends and strategic needs of various partners
  • Cultivate new relationships and build on existing relationships with stakeholders from the sector, including civil society and corporate partners, digital creators, artists, activists, media, professionals and influencers.
  • Lead and handle end to end production of all communication materials including institutional brochures, videos, newsletters, blogs, press releases and similar marketing materials in order to promote the organisation’s offerings and work.
  • Help to oversee and develop, organise and facilitate or co-facilitate events for the community, such as film screenings, discussion groups, workshops, training, and other events
  • Support the team as needed, including creating systems and methods of continuous improvement of internal communications.

Requirements

  • Between 3-4 years of work experience in social media marketing/PR/development communications.
  • Excellent communication skills and eye for detail
  • Experience using graphic design, audio and video editing softwares and the ability to create bite-sized video content for social media
  • Experience using social media analytics tools and the ability to tweak marketing strategies based on findings
  • Customer-service orientation ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
