J-PAL South Asia, based in India, leads J-PAL’s efforts in the South Asia region. It conducts randomized evaluations, builds partnerships for evidence-informed policymaking, and supports effective program scale-ups. J-PAL South Asia has a strong focus on Labour Markets and Firms sectors, addressing challenges in jobseeker support, worker welfare, firm growth, and productivity.

Job Description:
The Policy Associate will contribute to J-PAL South Asia’s mission by supporting new randomized evaluations, synthesizing and disseminating evidence, and fostering partnerships. The role specifically focuses on Labour Markets and Firms sectors. Key responsibilities include evidence generation, synthesis, and dissemination, policy outreach, project coordination and management, and miscellaneous support to the Policy team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify stakeholders in labour/skill development and private sector development.
- Catalyze new randomized evaluation research by aligning innovative projects with J-PAL affiliated professors.
- Compile insights from randomized evaluations and translate complex research findings into policy-relevant materials.
- Assist in preparing background notes, memos, updates, and presentations for partnerships.
- Engage with policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to disseminate research findings.
- Support in organizing policy outreach events and workshops.
- Assist in managing and coordinating project development activities for new research projects.
- Stay updated on current trends in labour and industrial policy in India.
- Support J-PAL SA on public goods within the Policy vertical and other verticals.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree; training in statistics is a minimum requirement.
- Experience: 0-2 years of relevant work experience; interest in international development policy and program evaluation.
- Communication: Detail-oriented, comfortable with public speaking, ability to communicate policy lessons from technical academic work.
- Attitude: Willing to learn, passionate about international development policy and rigorous research, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
