From May 24 to June 4, 2021, Professors Abhijit Banerjee (MIT) and Esther Duflo (MIT), winners of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2019, will give a ten-part introductory course. The course will be streamed live from Paris School of Economics page and on YouTube, and will be open to questions from the audience in the chat. A. Banerjee and E. Duflo are visiting PSE & ENS-PSL for the whole 2020-2021 academic year.
Abstract:
Should we trade more or less with China? Why are some countries poor, and some countries rich? Why are the 1% getting richer? Should the US (or France) have a universal basic income? Why is our society becoming so polarized? What can we do to mitigate climate change? Will robots take all the jobs? Why does racism persist and how can we fight it? What will the world economy look like after the COVID-19 crisis and the recession it caused?
Economics shows you how to think about some of the toughest problems facing society — and how to use data to get some answers. This exploratory course will be taught by Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, who will show you how cutting-edge research can help you answer these questions and more.
