Teach For India is on a journey to reach an India free of poverty and filled with love by ending educational inequity in our country. Twelve years into our journey we are a movement of 3800 Alumni working at all levels of the education system, who are reaching 1 in 10 children across the country. These Alumni have graduated from our two-year Fellowship Program where they taught in under-resourced classrooms to put 32,000 low-income children on a different life path. Today, we have 970 Fellows and are the largest pipeline of driven, skilled talent into the educational ecosystem in India.

Position Summary

The Public Relations and Content Manager plays a critical role in Teach For India’s branding and advocacy efforts, thereby, impacting the overall visibility of our work and our collective impact in a big way. They will support the Marketing and Communications team by sourcing, creating and disseminating impactful stories to 3 important stakeholders: prospective Teach For India Fellows, our Alumni community and our Donors.

This is an exciting role for someone who enjoys both content generation as well as the amplification of that content to a wider audience – a storyteller who can combine visuals and writing in a powerful way, while also building and nurturing relationships both with an internal and external network. Together, the Public Relations and Content Manager will help us narrate the impact of Teach For India over the past decade authentically in the press and online.

Responsibilities

As a Public Relations and Content Manager: 

  • Source, write, curate and disseminate Teach For India content. This will be across 7 cities, servicing the needs of Fellowship Recruitment, and Alumni Leadership. 
  • Write stories for digital and print. 
  • Oversee PR campaigns from creative brief to implementation and delivery.
  • Analyse PR and Media outcomes and interpret and report data.
  • Manage the National PR Agency both operationally and from a content PoV. 
  • Developing senior press relationships and managing contacts with key commentators, industry spokespeople and sector influencers.
  • Identify advocacy partnerships and opportunities relevant to the brand, key stakeholders and leadership team. 
  • Responsible for Senior Leadership advocacy. 
  • Support the National Communications team on-ground at events. 

As a Manager at Teach For India 

  • Contributing to the team goals and priorities beyond individual goals and priorities
  • Serving as an ambassador of the Teach For India brand and an advocate for our work and for educational equity in our country through both internal and external communication after commiting time in our classrooms to understand our work more deeply
  • Supporting with key organizational areas such as Recruitment, Selection, Fundraising, Volunteering, Movement Building

Minimum Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • A bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, communication, or journalism.
  •  4+ years of work experience in PR, communications, journalism or similar relevant field.
  • Proficiency in creating, editing, and promoting written, visual, and digital content.  
  • Excellent writing skills – Ability to develop content consistent with the Teach For India brand voice, style and tone.
  • Ability to inspire and build partnerships with media – print and online, other NGOs, Alumni organisations, global organisations (Girl Rising, UNICEF, Teach For All, etc).

Preferred Qualifications, Experiences and Expectations

  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns.
  • Proficiency in creating, editing, and promoting written, visual, and digital content.  
  • Understanding of the top media channels in the industry, which content and approaches work on each, and why. 
  • Ability to manage a set of goals involving diverse contributors and content types.
