ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Ashiyana works with at-risk youth in Mumbai, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand between the ages 14-22 years, who are either Children in Conflict with the Law (CCL) or Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. These are children and young people who have mostly dropped out of school, lived on the streets, are addicted,have been apprehended, and face multiple traumas and challenges. Ashiyana works to transform the lives of the children within closed government residential homes and once they leave, out in the world.
Key responsibilities of the Communications Officer:
- Lead, design and create all Ashiyana’s communication based on the organization’s ethos and spirit.
- Develop powerful content that exemplifies the voices of at-risk children and youth.
- Plan, design, develop and collate communication materials for social media posts (twitter, instagram, facebook, linkedin), monthly newsletters, annual reports and blogs.
- Create short videos sharing children’s voices, information about the issue and experiences from our work.
- Build Ashiyana’s web presence and content on the website.
- Build and engage a community of people who support Ashiyana’s work.
- Manage and create avenues to boost the organisation’s social media presence.
- Ensure the organisation’s website is up to date.
- Ideate and implement ways to increase the organisation’s reach to current and potential stakeholders.
- Managing and updating the Mailchimp database, sending regular emails to Ashiyana’s community.
- Support Ashiyana staff with communications: Create templates, and ensure quality external communications (email, presentations, training material, etc.)
- Recruit communications interns from Indian schools that can support you in carrying out responsibilities and sustain your work.
- Build relationships with the media so that we can share our knowledge and experience of working with Children at risk and create a platform for children’s voices to be heard.
We are looking for someone who:
- Will be quick to understand the organisation’s ethos, and values as it will better aid in generating communications material that speaks on behalf of Ashiyana.
- Has an amazing storytelling ability to give the audiences an insight and create curiosity about the people we work with, the challenges faced by them, as well as our approach in this field of work.
- Is able to think creatively, is proactive, organised, and pays great attention to detail.
- Can collaborate with different stakeholders (team members, volunteers, children and youth, etc.) but also work independently to produce timely and relevant communications material.
- At least 2 years’ experience in marketing communications or journalism and sharing stories that connect emotionally with readers.
- Create and maintain appropriate data management and storage channels to enable quick and easy access to acquired data.
Language Skills:
- Excellent communication, linguistic and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in English and Hindi is a must.
Educational Qualification:
- Graduate / Postgraduate in Media & Communications / Journalism.
