PACTA is looking to hire a full-time Research Associate for a period of 2 months with animmediate start date.
About the Role
We are currently seeking applications to support one of our Disability Data Gaps projects focused on understanding the State’s capacity and preparedness to enable access to justice forpersons with disabilities in India through the availability of data (available in the publicdomain).
This research study will feed into a prominent annual state of justice report to provide valuable insights into the State’s capacity and preparedness to support persons with disabilities, who are either a justice provider or justice seekers, within the justice systems.
The Research Associate will start immediately, play a crucial role in supporting the work until its completion in early June 2024.

PACTA is a Bengaluru-based boutique law firm and policy think tank dedicated to supporting civil society organizations, universities, and non-profit initiatives.
PACTA is committed to provide legal and policy consulting support for public service delivery. PACTA engages in law and policy research through self-driven and collaborative projects.
Specifically, we focus on three thematic areas: a diversity and equity, b. technology, and c. philanthropy.
Where is the Project At?
We are working with 15 interns from Krea University who are conducting comprehensive research across states and union territories of India across four pillars of justice: prisons, police, legal aid, and judiciary.
The interns are tasked with identifying legal mandates, policy guidelines and data sources for persons with disabilities in access to justice across the four pillars. Interns are currently
identifying data sources at the state-level policies and legal frameworks impacting the access to justice for persons with disabilities and mapping it to a framework that PACTA has developed.
What Work Does the Role Entail?
The Research Associate will be responsible for the following activities:
- Manage the interns including organizing regular check-ins, answering their queries/concerns, and ensuring the work is done on time.
- Perform secondary desk research to verify and strengthen the work done by the interns.
- Support the team file physical and online RTIs to the relevant PIOs across the four pillars to identify any additional sources of data.
- Compile and compare the data from the RTI responses to the secondary research data mapped onto the framework.
- Perform secondary desk research on national and international mandates and requirements on equity and access to justice for persons with disabilities.
- Support the team on any other tasks that may come up during the course project completion.
Qualifications
- Educational qualifications LL.B. with a research focus (ideally about 2 years of experience).
- Demonstrates responsibility and initiative.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a young, diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in one or more regional language(s) of India is preferred.
The Research Associate is expected to work full-time from our Bangalore Office for a period of 2 months from the date of hire. We will consider this as a remote opportunity only ifthe candidate demonstrates the required skills, initiative and, responsibility towards work.
This isa paid position (INR 35000- INR 50000/-) per month. May be extended based on performanceother available projects/ positions.
This role is ideally meant for someone looking to transition toMasters in Law in Human Rights/ Masters in Public Policy Program, and will provide groundedlearning opportunities for the pursuit of advanced academic research.
