Janaagraha is a trusted non-profit trust established in 2001, committed to transforming the quality of life in India’s cities and towns. As part of the JANA Group, a renowned group of not-for-profit institutions, we focus on fixing India’s cities through various initiatives. Our co-founders, Swati Ramanathan and Ramesh Ramanathan, have led the JANA Group’s efforts since 2001, which includes Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, Jana Urban Space Foundation, Jana Urban Services for Transformation Pvt. Ltd., Jana Small Finance Bank, and Janaadhar.
What will the Intern really do?
As an intern in Janaagraha’s Municipal Finance Program, you will play a crucial role in the Cityfinance portal, working towards data-driven governance on financial management of cities. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring data integrity of ULB (Urban Local Body) data on cityfinance.in
- Collaborating with the Cityfinance team to fulfill commitments made as part of the MoU with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Data cleaning and collection, fixing errors, and compiling clean data sets for analysis and report writing
- Supporting the Municipal Finance team in achieving large-scale reforms in local governments, particularly in strengthening financial accounting policies, laws, and operations
Qualifications and Experience:
- Graduate in Commerce/Economics/Finance/Public Policy/Public Administration or Bachelors in Engineering
- Candidates with outstanding academic and career accomplishments and relevant work experience from alternative academic backgrounds will also be considered
- Preferred: Exposure to working with government stakeholders and understanding the product development lifecycle
- Proficiency in MS Office suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with strong data analysis and visualization skills
- 0-1 years of professional work experience
- Proficiency in English
What competencies does it take to be Intern – Municipal Finance?
- Existing knowledge of or willingness to grasp concepts of Municipal Finance and tax laws
- Ability to work with ambiguity and engage with government functionaries to achieve program objectives
- Strong program management and prioritization skills
- Excellent skills in Excel, Word, and preferably experience with BI tools
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and adaptability to a dynamic work environment
- Initiative and ownership of individual projects
